I am a lover of world symbols. This symbol is indigenous to ancient Khemet or Egypt. It represents eternal life. I have taught the Pathagorean Theorem using the ankh symbol. Pythagoras once lived in Egypt and loved studying ancient Egyptian culture. In this symbol I see the circular shape as a female womb or A squared. The long part represents the male phallic or B squared and the shorter lines going from left to right represent children or C squared. A squared + B squared = C squared.
